The City of Ranson, West Virginia (www.cityofransonwv.net) has been in the forefront of encouraging redevelopment of its brownfields sites and is currently accepting proposals to develop a brownfield site into a sustainable and green neighborhood named Powhatan Place. In September, 2011, Ranson was notified that it was awarded a U.S. HUD Brownfields Economic Development Initiative grant and loan package totaling $4.5 million to assist with the redevelopment of the former 119-year old Kidde Brass Foundry.
Located only one hour from Washington D.C. and Baltimore, about five miles from the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, this Washington D.C. SMSA city’s economic growth is fueled by its strategic location as part of the Frederick, Maryland, Dulles/Loudoun County corridor with access to routes 81, 340, 9, 15, 270 and 70; public transportation with daily MARC service and easy access to Dulles, Reagan, and BWI airports.
Ranson is committed to being a leader in green and sustainable new neighborhoods within reach of the greater Washington DC and Baltimore marketplace.
REDA is seeking proposals from interested parties wishing to secure the former foundry site for private development. Powhatan Place is intended to be a mixed use, master planned 6.6 acre neighborhood development on the site of the former Kidde Fire Protection Facility. REDA is providing a totally remediated site, infrastructure improvements assistance and potential contributions to the commercial portion of the development as detailed below. Proposals are due January 20, 2012.
Ranson will hold a pre-proposal conference and site tour on January 5, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. The conference shall be held at Ranson City Hall.
