The Planning Division participates in long-range local and regional planning activities and is responsible for all matters concerning:
- Implementation of the Ranson Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances
- Issuance of use permits
- Variance requests
- Rezoning and annexation petitions
- Subdivision applications
- Plat administration
Responsibilities
- Administers federal, state and local flood plain and storm water regulations
- Assembly and gathering of community data
- Develops and maintains the city's Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Plans and Plats, Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance
- Provides information to the public on regulations, zoning codes and development projects
- Provides primary staffing to the Ranson Planning Commission and Ranson Board of Zoning Appeals
- Reviews and administers zone change proposals and petitions
- Reviews CRC and subdivision design
- Reviews private development projects for design and compliance with the Zoning Ordinance
Boards & Commission
Planning acts as the Zoning Administrator and holds hearings on proposed projects through the following boards and commissions:

The Planning and Zoning coordinates development and permitting projects between the Community Development Department and Public Works Department.
